Equal Exchange Fair Trade gift basket review & giveaway

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to winner Denise!

It’s the holiday season and I want to share a few green products with you here on my blog. And someone will also have the opportunity to try them all out first-hand!

The first product I had the opportunity to sample is a gift basket from Equal Exchange. This Fair Trade Mixer Gift Basket includes a variety of Equal Exchange products (all are organic except for the pecans and all are fairly traded) – three kinds of chocolate bars, coffee, almonds, pecans and hot chocolate mix – in a beautiful fairly traded kaisa grass basket imported by Ten Thousand Villages from Dhaka Handicrafts, a non-profit that works to improve the lives of children and rural families in Bangladesh. It’s a great holiday gift idea – one that truly gives back – and it’s really tasty! I’ve been munching on the chocolate and almonds and drinking the hot chocolate and all have been excellent. I don’t know about you, but when I eat food that is fairly traded, it just seems to taste better and certainly makes me feel better about eating it. πŸ™‚ To learn more about fair trade, visit the Fair Trade FAQ.

This gift basket is on sale through today, Dec. 15.

Equal Exchange has several other fair trade gifts that support small-scale farmers, ranging from $27-$75, including many that are on sale through today (Dec. 15). If you order online, you can get 10% off your order and receive free shipping on orders over $75. Use coupon code: giftme10 during checkout. Coupon expires 12/31/09.

  1. Oh, I already LOVE Equal Exchange and their products! I drink their coffee and my son loves the hot cocoa! We are almost out of both so more would be GREAT!!! Plus, I am eager to try their chocolate bars!

  2. I would love to try the nuts. We have had the coffee, cocoa and chocolate, and loved them all – taste and knowing they’re fair trade!

  3. I’d get the Organic Dark Chocolate Minis because they are Dominican Republic chocolate. I visited a coffee and cocoa farm in the DR and try to buy DR products as much as I can. Farming is one of the very few “industries” they have.

  4. I love Equal Exchange. They were doing fair trade before anyone else was. I used to work for TransFair USA the US fair trade certifier and got to know them well. I love their coffee, but have never tried their chocolate. Can’t wait to try it!

  5. The whole basket looks so yummy. I really want to try the hot cocoa, and the chocolate, and the coffee….okay, I want it all. LOL

  6. I’m all about trying the pecans. I loved the little choco bars and gave them out to 150 kids on halloween with a note about fair trade. This week @ Mothers Acting Up we are talking about creating new habits and traditions. Wanna join in the fun. Lots of Fair trade talk and doing Kiva with our kids.

  7. Well as much as I would loke to try everything… I would probably pick The Hal’s Blend Coffee. But I reserve the right to change my mind at any time and go for the chocolate!

  8. I would almost feel dirty drinking anything other than my fair trade coffee of choice, but I am always interested in trying new products…regardless, I think I missed the boat on this one. Congrats to the winner(s)!
