BSM – 3/26/07

Just one to share today. It’s not “technically” my best shot this week, but I like it for the emotion. Ava is always making Julian smile and this is just one example I happened to catch with my camera. ๐Ÿ™‚ (That’s Ava’s head on the right side of the pic.)

For the record, I can’t believe it’s already Monday again! This weekend seemed to fly by. Jody and I both got a lot done around the house and with the car (oil change and new tires) though. I didn’t end up participating in “Shutdown Day.” I had too much to prepare for my photoshoot and needed to use my computer.

It’s amazing how much we rely on computers these days – from email to checking the forecast to looking up phone numbers, etc. It’s nice to have so much information right at your fingertips. However, I’m all for a self-imposed shutdown day every now and then. I think it’s good to take a break. ๐Ÿ™‚

As for the photoshoot, it went pretty well, despite my initial concerns over the super bright sun. It eventually set enough to get some good shots, but then it seemed it was setting too fast and I had to snap pictures like a mad woman so that I didn’t run out of light. Nothing like a setting sun to keep ya on your toes. I love the look and feel of natural light, but it’s times like those that I really wish I had a studio set up. Someday…

I almost forgot – a big CONGRATULATIONS to fellow blogger Liesl on the homebirth of her second son Kieran on March 23! Enjoy your babymoon, Liesl. ๐Ÿ™‚

BSM – 3/19/07

Time for another round of Best Shot Monday.

This week I’m featuring several pics of my kids in my new prop – a giant tea cup. I’m usually not a big fan of props, but after reading about and seeing the tea cups on ILP I thought it was particularly cute, especially for babies.

So here ya go – My Kids in a Cup! ๐Ÿ™‚

For anyone who’s wondering, the tea cups are available at (*gasp*) Walmart. I know, I know. (*hanging my head in shame*)

Edited to add: A commenter asked that I share my lighting and backdrop setup, so here ya go. Lighting is natural – coming in from a sliding glass door to the left of my subjects (my right). Backdrop is a black piece of fleece. Subject is about 3 feet (they are supposed to be even more, but I don’t have that much room to work with) away from the backdrop. Hope that helps. ๐Ÿ™‚

BSM (Best Shot Monday) 3/12/07

I have a few to share this week.

These first two were taken during my newborn photoshoot last weekend. They are a couple of my favorites from the session. The little guy was 12 days old.

After having the shoot, I haven’t had time to pick up my camera all that much this week because I’ve been busy proofing the session. However, when Ava came across a punjabi suit that my sister bought for her during her travels in India (during the summer when Ava turned 1), we decided to try it on her to see if it fit. It did! This picture is not technically correct (there are major hot spots and a slew of other things wrong), but I still think it’s sweet and shows off the beautiful outfit.

We went to the zoo on Sunday, which was a lot of fun. The sun was very bright though which didn’t make for very good pics of the animals. Plus I found it’s hard to take a decent pic with a 17 lb. baby strapped to my chest (I was wearing Julian in the Moby Wrap). ๐Ÿ˜‰
I snapped this one of Jody and Ava though that I like.

BSM (aka Best Shot Monday) 3/5/07

Is it already Monday again? Time for another round of “BSM.”

Here’s Julian at 3 months, 1 week old. I realized most of my BSM’s are of Julian because he can’t run away from me yet. ๐Ÿ˜‰

In case you are wondering, Julian did very well without me on Sunday. I nursed him right before I left for the photoshoot. He was sleeping when I got home and slept another 45 minutes or so before he woke up ready to eat. Jody didn’t have to bother with a bottle, which is good because I don’t think he would’ve taken it. We’re still going to try to get him used to one though so that I can schedule more photoshoots without having to time everything just perfectly. I lucked out that this one was less than five minutes from my house so I could’ve got home quickly if the need arose.

Also “Monkeysmama” from Maya’s Mom found out that one of the women in the Maya’s Mom office runs the company that makes the “Breastbottle Nurser.” She gave her a free one to send to me so she had it overnighted here. That was so nice of them! Thank you again, Monkeysmama. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh, and the photoshoot went well. I came away from it with several images that I really like.

My best shot Monday 2/19/07

In an effort to keep learning and bettering myself (photographically-speaking), I started reading the Picture This blog (of Tracey – another Maya’s Mom connection), and am going to try to participate in her “My Best Shot Monday” post each week.

The jist of it is you post your best shot or shots (on your blog or wherever) from the previous week, then let her know about it by leaving a comment on her blog. I’m hoping that by forcing myself to put some of my pictures “out there,” it will challenge me and help me grow as a photographer.

Without further ado, here’s my best shot from this past week:
