I heart fall – Wordless Wednesday

I love fall — the sights, the sounds, the smells. Oh, the smells. 🙂 There’s nothing like the smell of autumn leaves. 🙂 And I especially love the colorful maple tree in our new backyard.

What do you love about fall?

Garden Goodness – Wordless Wednesday

This is the first year I’ve attempted to grow watermelon (which the kids LOVE) and am so pleased to see a few of them looking edible. 🙂 Its been so fun to see the melons growing a bit more each day.
I’m hoping this little baby will be ready to eat soon, but I have no idea when to pick it. Any suggestions? I think I need to track down my Botanical Interests seed packet to read more about it. 🙂

How’s your garden doing this year?

The Halloween version of Wordless Wednesday

It’s Wednesday and I’m sick and posting a few pics is all I can muster right now. 😛

This is what happens when you get a foot of snow before Halloween:

Two days later “I’m melting, I’m melting!”:

Happy Halloween from the mime, doggy, snow princess & Mr. Clean:

Jack-o-lantern, jack-o-lantern – Wordless Wednesday

Jack-o-lantern, jack-o-lantern
You are such a funny sight
As you sit there in the window
Looking out at the night

You were once a yellow pumpkin
Growing on a sturdy vine
Now you are a jack-o-lantern
Let your candle light shine

My one and only – Wordless Wednesday

Not so Wordless Wednesday:

This is the one and only eggplant I got from my garden this year – a rosa bianca. I was pondering what to do with it (seriously, it’s so small it fits in the palm of my hand) and a couple friends suggested this tasty and super easy crock pot ratatouille recipe. I need to get a few more ingredients (and probably another eggplant), but that is the plan for Wednesday’s dinner. 🙂

Also, I apologize for not blogging lately or doing a Ditch the Disposables Challenge check-in yet. There’s a lot I’ve been dealing with lately, including a broken car window (someone broke it out and stole my sister’s purse). Blah.

Gone Fishin’ – Wordless Wednesday

Ava and Julian went fishing with daddy, paw-paw and me-maw on Tuesday for the very first time. Unfortunately the fish were not biting, but the kids still had a good time. 🙂

(Also, sorry I haven’t been posting lately. My in-laws are in town and I’ve been sick. Oh, and my laptop may be fried. Sigh.)

Kindergarten! – Wordless Wednesday

This is one of those “not quite Wordless Wednesday” posts. 😉

I snapped this picture with my iPhone of Ava at our “meet the teacher” night Tuesday. She starts kindergarten Wednesday morning and will be going two full days and one half day each week. The first day is a full day.

I’ve been filled with a mix of emotions (excitement, nervousness, sadness, happiness, pride, and even close to a panic attack this evening) about my girl starting kindergarten and I hope to write about it soon. This new school is such a big change from what Ava’s used to (a Waldorf home-based preschool with eight kids at the most). Yet I have a lot of confidence in her ability to adapt, make friends and fit right in. She’s proven to me on so many occasions that she is fully capable.

And so, although I might have my worries, I will be strong (at least outwardly), put on my proud mama smile and let her spread her wings. After all, that’s a mama’s job, right?
